Day Three

A Spirit of Peace

“In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety.”
Psalms 4:8

Though the winds of war and chaos may hound me, though misfortune and disaster may befall me, though I may never see victory nor experience opulence, still I will trust in the Lord, for His peace surrounds me.  Like a babe in its mother’s arms, I have assurance that my Lord is in control and is caring for every situation.  The peace of Christ strengthens and sustains me through the trials in my life.
Contrary to what I was taught, God does not provide the trial to produce peace.  Peace is learned before the trial by trusting continuously in God.  It is a gift given by the Holy Spirit and earned through continuous trust.  It is a gift designed to get us through trials, to lift us above common reaction to stressful situations.  A disciple’s relationship with God and maturity are proven through how he displays peace through a trial.
The peace of God is assurance.  The peace of God is knowing that we do have a future and that we do have a purpose.  This is the gift of God:  that throughout the doubt and difficulty, throughout the turmoil of the world, we rest soundly in the knowledge that everything is purposed through God and God is surprised by nothing.

·A disciple knows the peace of the Spirit in his life.

Application:  Am I commanded by the Spirit of peace or a spirit of worry?  Am I prepared for the next trial?
