Day Four
American Dream
“I came that they may have life,
and have it abundantly”
John 10:10
Well, you’ve done it. You’ve gotten that big promotion, a trophy wife, two point five kids, a nice house, powerful car, and a nice hobby to keep you pre-occupied on the weekends. You’re all done. You can die a happy and fulfilled man. After all, isn’t the American dream the final goal? Once you’ve met and succeeded the goal of the American Dream, the only other thing to shoot for is either a debt-free retirement or winning the lottery, and both of those are pretty far off. Now, all you can do is sit back, twiddle your thumbs and wait for death.
Why should you settle for the American Dream when you can have so much more? You’re really only scratching the surface of purpose in this life. Haven’t you felt throughout this life that there’s got be something more? Doesn’t the total picture seem a little bit empty? Life is full of questions and concerns. What we really need are answers.
Welcome to the table of Jesus, where you can find answers, contentment, purpose, and something more. Welcome to a place where the best that the world has to offer does not even compare to the abundance of life found in the shadow of God. Welcome to life.
· A disciple’s dreams stretch farther than the American Dream
Application: Are you happy with where you’re at in life? Do you yearn for something more?
