Day Three
A Reverent Silence
"But the LORD is in His holy temple.
Let all the earth be silent before Him."
Habakkuk 2:20
When we are silent before the LORD and we wait upon Him in our patience, we are demonstrating a reverence and awe toward Him. We are demonstrating the fear of the LORD. Our actions demonstrate before a world given to pompous posturing and outrageous behavior that a believer in Jesus Christ does nothing through his own power, but waits for the power of God to be revealed.
We can run around and moan and wail and cry and act up like the world, but what really would that accomplish? God is not persuaded by our childish fits and ill behavior. He is not swayed when we whine to Him or demand justice from Him. He wants us to wait and trust Him. When we wait, it brings glory to Him. When we wait, it demonstrates our reliance upon Him.
Next time the world does not treat you right or when events just don’t seem to be going your way, don’t scream or cry. Don’t yell or hang your head in despair. Simply be silent before your God. Show the world that you trust Him. Show the world that you are waiting for Him. Show the world that you have the correct reverence for your God and your God will deliver you.
Application: Do your actions reveal your reverence toward God? Do you explode or keep silent?
